5 Signs That Your Child Needs a Tutor

5 Signs That Your Child Needs a Tutor

A tutor can play an important role in improving overall academic performance of a child. Parents can appoint a tutor or they themselves can take-up the role in order to boost the academic performance of child. Read on to 5 signs that your child needs a tutor.

In this fiercely competitive world it is important for every child to put in his or her best performance. With every step in academics being monitored by a battery of tests and competitive exams, sometimes school education is not sufficient. Most children are unable to verbalise or understand just when they would like the help of a tutor. Here are some signs that will help you identify the need of a tutor.

Poor Grades

Have you noticed your child slipping down in academics? As a parent it is obvious that you must have kept a vigilant eye on the test scores of your kid. If there is a sudden drop or a slow decline in the test scores of your child then it is a clear signal of something being amiss. Either your kid has lost focus in academics or is unable to understand what has been taught in class. Either way this does not spell well for the future of your kid. Early intervention is a must as once your chid has lost track of a large portion of the curriculum it becomes difficult to make up. Hire a good tutor at the earliest.

Not Understanding Concepts

There are some kids who are so good in memorising things that they simply commit everything to memory. In exams and tests, such children perform well as long as the answers do not require the demonstration of logic. Unfortunately the examination patterns of many educational institutes do test memory retention more than actual understanding.
If you find that your kid is confused about basic concepts then you must try to understand that there is something wrong with his or her learning style. Hiring a tutor may help in presenting the concepts in an entirely new way and your child will develop a better understanding with time.

Neglecting Assignments

Keep an eye on your kid to understand whether he or she is doing assignments or homework on time. If your child avoids doing homework even after you give multiple reminders then it is a sign of something going wrong. Similarly, if your kid is unable to complete assignments or school projects then it is a sign that your kid is unable to match up with the academic demands of school.
The habit of not doing homework on time has a snowballing effect and very soon you will find your child completely baffled by the course content. Step in and intervene before this situation arises and make sure that you hire a good tutor for your kid.

Lowered Confidence Levels

It is important for you to ensure that your kid does not suffer from low confidence levels because of bad school grades. When you see your child saying things like “I am stupid” or “everybody is smarter than me” then it’s a clear sign of poor self esteem. Get hold of a tutor who can motivate and coach your child to perform better in school. Your child’s confidence will return with the improvement of grades.

Nervousness and Anxiety

If you continually see your child nervous and anxious before tests then it is a sign of concern. This is symbolic of mental tension that comes with not being well prepared for examinations. The anxiety will prompt your child to fail to answer questions which he or she knows.
When anxiety seeps in your kid the overall personality is affected in a negative way. Hiring a good tutor can prove to be a perfect solution in this juncture. The tutor will help your kid beat tension and anxiety by cultivating a better understanding of the subject.
A good tutor can make a life changing difference to your child so do not hesitate before hiring one.

Why do children need a tutor? Can children study without a tutor? What is the importance of parental involvement in the academics of children? Discuss here.
