How to Keep New Year Resolutions

How to Keep New Year Resolutions

Do you find difficult to stick to your New Year resolution every year? Here are some suggestions and tips which you can follow to complete your resolution this year. Read these tips to accomplish your New Year resolution.

A New Year resolution is a commitment or a promise made by an individual to himself to follow for the upcoming year. January 1st is a good day to start afresh. You may have some bad habits or bad qualities in yourself which you are not happy about and want to stop. January 1st is a good day to start new and make changes in your lifestyle or personality.

It is that time of the year again, when resolutions have been made and goals have been set. New Year resolutions may vary from person to person. Some could have a resolution to lose weight while someone else may have made a resolution to spend more time with family and friends. In their pursuit of achieving their resolutions, many people do not last beyond January. Here we give you some tips to stick to your New Year resolutions and to achieve them.

Make One Resolution

Do not overload yourself with many resolutions. If you have only one resolution, there are greater chances of you being successful. Average people find even one resolution challenging and tough to achieve. Choose the most important issue on hand. If the most important issue on hand is losing weight, choose that as your resolution. Having too many resolutions simultaneously could result in failure.

Be Realistic

Make a resolution which is realistic. Having a resolution like I will lose five kilos a week is very unrealistic. Make a resolution which is attainable. In your desperation to achieve your goal do not aim unrealistically high and be impractical.

Put It in Writing

It is amazing, how much more effect writing down your resolution can have. Write down your resolution on a piece of paper and stick it on your refrigerator or on your cupboard or someplace where you will see it everyday. Every time you are about to slip, reading it might stop you and bring you back on track again. Writing down goals has been seen to have worked wonders.

Talk About It

Tell all your family and friends about your resolution. If your family and friends know about your resolution they will be able to help you. For example, if you have resolved to lose weight, then your family and friends will be supportive. For example, your parents could have bought a cake or some chocolates and might want you to have it. However, if they are aware of your resolve to lose weight, they will understand when you say that you do not want to eat it and will not force you to have it. Also, parents and family can be encouraging you in your endeavour to lose weight. If you slip and go off track, they will be there to keep a watch and bring you back on track. If you and another friend have the same resolution, then it is great as both of you can motivate each other.

Keep Trying

Patience is a virtue. Even if it is only mid-January and you are already breaking your resolution or not following it make a new start. You can always start once again even though it is not the first of January. If your resolution is to lose weight do not be upset if the results do not start showing immediately.

Do Not Be Too Harsh on Yourself

Breaking old habits or trying to achieve a goal is not always easy. Any goal to achieve takes a lot of hard work and effort. If occasionally you falter and move away from the path, do not obsess over it and be too harsh on yourself and criticize yourself.

Reward Yourself

If you have been sticking to your goal faithfully and working hard at it, pat yourself on the back and reward yourself. If your goal was to eat healthier and you have been following it successfully, reward yourself by being nice to yourself. A reward here would not be eating an entire pack of ice cream or chocolates. Instead reward yourself with a pair of new shoes or an extra movie. You can reward yourself with something that contradicts your goal and something entirely different.

It is great that you have resolved to change something about yourself. Keep these tips in your mind and go give it your best!

New Year resolutions can become difficult to achieve. New Year is a good day to begin. The main thing first is that New Year resolutions need to be taken seriously. You need to treat it importantly and commit yourself to achieving it. Also you need to make a schedule for it and regularly track your progress.

My New Year resolution is to help people. I have a lot of free time on weekends and I want to go and volunteer in nearby orphanages or old age homes. I always end up using my free time watching more of television or wasting time. If somebody really wants to do something, the resolution will become easier to achieve.

My New Year Resolution is to stop postponing. I always have a bad habit of postponing and putting off things. Finally, I end up doing it extremely late or not doing it at all. I want to stop this habit because it is affecting my life a lot and causing a lot of problems. I hope I am able to stop this habit and be successful.
