Why You Should Never Hit Your Children

Why You Should Never Hit Your Children
Parents hit children for misbehaviour without realising its harmful effects. Read on to find more about the reasons why parents should never hit their children.

For the past many years, physical punishment for children is seriously forbidden by many parents, sociological researchers, and psychiatrists. Still, to make the children disciplined and respectful to others, hitting becomes a common weapon for most of the parents. Every human gets angry at one or the other moment in their life. Similarly, kids also express their anger with their bad behaviour and thereby getting spankings from parents. But there are many negative impacts of hitting on children. Below mentioned are the five reasons why parents should avoid hitting their children.

1. Children Learn to Hit

When children get beatings from their parents, they learn that hitting is right to correct someone’s mistakes. And in this way, they become hitters themselves and carryout the same behaviour with others, even in a public places. The true fact is children learn from what they see, what they observe and what they experience at home. Thus, the parents must be aware of these consequences and avoid hitting the children.

2. Punishment Distracts Learning

Punishing the child by hitting will distract them from learning how to resolve their own problems in effective methods. According to John Holt, when a child is afraid of punishment, he or she will automatically stop learning new things and there will not be any successful steps going forward. I addition, punished kids will have a big room for anger and revenge, which would erase the opportunity of learning cycle in their life. Further, they will never feel easy to solve any such issues in future.

3. Hitting Affects the Bonding with Parents

Children easily develop bad opinion about parents when they are often punished or hit. This will create the biggest gap between the child and parent. Kids love the people who love them in all situations. Punishment sometimes seems to work out to produce good behaviour in children, but it would be purely because of fear and not for goodness. To make the good behaviour last forever, avoid hitting and try to be calm when you are training them for such behaviours. This brings mutual happiness and understanding between the children and parents, without any damage to their bonding.

4. There is No Outlet for Anger

Most of the parents hit when the kids are expressing their anger and frustration with bad behaviours. Therefore, the kids try to control by safeguarding their anger and after years, slowly it arises in some other situations. At this point of time, it would be a great shock for parents to see such a big burst out from children. Hitting the child may look fine in early ages, but later when they enter adolescence stage, they feel strong enough to push out all their anger. Thus, do not punish them for expressing their feelings in early stages when they are angry which might result in negative conflicts in the future. Show them the health ways of expressing anger instead of beating or punishing them.

5. Bad Example is Set

Every kid admires, praises and observes the behaviours prevailing at home, especially from parents. In that case, parents must be very careful in behaving in front of children. Whatever actions they perform will be actually followed by their kids and it will become their habit too. If the parents are good at punishing for the mistakes, children too will follow the same style of behaviour wherever they are. Therefore, it is better not to be harsh and give physical punishments at home. Parents must not be a bad role model for the children as that would end up in negative impacts throughout their life.
Love and affection is the strongest and true weapon to deal with any child. When praises and rewards are given for their positive actions, they would automatically stick to good behaviours and act accordingly. Finally, treating children with love, care and dignity would result in an upbringing of good human beings.

When parents hit children, they will fear to share anything with parents. Eventually, a gap will be created between parents and children out of fear.

It is not good to hit children. Children can become aggressive if they are frequently hit by parents.
