Even though many people claim to know a lot about nutrition, it is a relatively new science and there is still a lot to be discovered. Many years before researchers said that there are foods that help in improved growth and development and years after this report, researchers confirm that it was a good advice.
There are certain foods that if included even as snacks can improve brain functioning. Just as fast as children move from school to home and from one activity to another, their brain is also growing and changing. These are critical years and what kids eat affect their focus and cognitive skills.

10 Brain Foods for Kids

1. Eggs

Eggs have choline which is vital for the creation of memory stem cells that are formed deep within our brains and this substance is found plentiful in eggs. Recent studies have shown that even if the choline is in extra quantity, it is going to help your child remember better because it helps add new memory cell production.

2. Oatmeal

Oatmeal is rich in protein and fibre and helps keep heart and brain arteries clear. If cinnamon is added to the preparation it helps protect brain cells also.

3. Apples and Plums

Apples and plums are also helpful for aiding brain development in children. Apples and plums contain antioxidant that help fight cognitive decline.

4. Turmeric

5. Nuts and Seeds

Nuts and seeds are packed with protein, vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids. These boost your child’s mood and keep their nervous system contented. But they should be consumed in moderation.

6. Clean Meat

With clean meat we mean meat that is free from artificial ingredients, flavours, preservatives, dyes and sweeteners. It helps in better behaviour and focus.

7. Fish

Fish are good source of vitamin D and Omega 3 which prevents your child’s brain cognitive decline and memory loss.

Nutrients and brain health are directly related. Having a nourishing and well-rounded diet gives your child the best way to avoid diseases also. Apart from the food items that are important for brain development, there is one most important thing that parents do not pay attention to and that is, water. It is found that kids take very little water especially when they are in school.
Dehydration, even in a very mild case, makes kids lethargic, irritsable and listless. So, you should offer water after every meal and also after they come back home in the evening. It is always good to offer food in varieties and ask your child to choose at least three fruits and three vegetables every day. Now that you have the nutrition tips, you simply need to present them in such a way that your child enjoys the healthy brain foods.
